Chint Products and MCBs

Welcome! We are a major stockist of Chint electrical products and are committed to helping you to find exactly what you are looking for. We stock a wide range of Chint circuit protection equipment including miniature circuit breakers, RCDs and RCBOs.

Helping you find the right circuit breaker, at the right price, is important to us. We can offer considerable savings against many other brands without compromising on quality or reliability. A circuit breaker is one of the most important pieces of electrical equipment as it helps to protect from electrical shocks that may occur due to power surges and faulty electrical equipment. A circuit breaker also protects electrical devices from overloading.

For domestic applications, a large selection of single phase consumer units is available. To meet with the latest 17th Edition requirements, each circuit should be protected by a Residual Circuit Breaker known as an RCD. An RCD reacts quicker to electrical imbalances (such as faulty insulation) and helps to prevent against electrical shocks if a live part of a circuit is touched. In the event of an electrical fault, an RCD reacts quicker than a circuit breaker, making it a vital and invaluable safety feature.

Here is a typical configuration of a 17th Edition split load consumer unit, available on our web site:

As you can see, every circuit breaker is protected by an RCD. One RCD protects the first set of circuits and one RCD protects the second set of circuits. In the event of a problem occurring with your lighting such as a lamp blowing, you will only lose either your downstairs or upstairs lights (not both) this is a major benefit of using a split consumer unit with two RCD's.

Here is another configuration of a 17th Edition consumer; this has no RCDs or circuit breakers but contains RCBOs instead:

RCBO stands for Residual Current Breaker with Overload protection An RCBO is an outgoing device, similar to a circuit breaker but also provides RCD protection. RCBOs are single pole and take up one modular space in the consumer unit. Both of the configurations shown, fully comply with the latest 17th Edition Regulations. The second configuration will work out more expensive as RCBOs cost about 8 times more than circuit breakers.

For domestic use, a circuit breaker with the B type characteristic should be used, as this type of circuit breaker reacts more quickly to overloads than a circuit breaker with the C or D type characteristic. For lighting circuits, a circuit breaker or RCBO rated at 6 amps would be recommended. For sockets a 32 amp circuit or RCBO should be used. For cookers and most showers a 40 amp should be used.

We are also experts in motor control gear and can assist you with both presales and after sales enquiries. In our Chint range we offer many contactors. A contactor is a type of switch that is electronically controlled. Contactors are used to control a circuit. We offer contactors from a couple of amps to several hundred amps. Contactors also range in physical size, from less than 50mm to over 385mm in width. Contactors are usually used for heating, electric motors, and other loads. Using the correct accessory, contactors can be used in configurations such as star delta starter, reversing starter and DOL starter.
